Liminal Observations

(2021)

Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin

The work consists of a room installation and a pamphlet.
Liminality is neither what was nor what is to come. Or it's both at the same time. It is the border, from this position anything can arise.

The work was shown in two rooms. One room had two entrances and showed an installation in the middle of the room which in that way formed a border with the two entrances. The border was made up of loose material, collected on the streets of Berlin and in the vicinity of our house in Västra Ämtervik. Out of the border rose sculptures made up of the same material exchange between the two conflicting places; the city and the country - culture and nature.

In the other room, a pamphlet was shown with texts and images that related to thoughts about a border, or the meeting between two contrasting values. On the wall hung a blue wool blanket with a cutout of a church window facing the other room. Blue is the rarest color to be found in nature. In tarot reading, the color blue represents the mental, the thoughts. The two rooms represented the division of the brain and the body as two starting points for thought.
